BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
Unlike other financial institutions, credit unions aren't for-profit companies that exist to make money for stockholders. Instead, credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that strive to improve the financial well-being of members - the people who belong to credit unions. They are called members, not customers, because they own the credit union and have input into the way it operates and the products and services offered. Simply put, credit union membership assures a fair deal for all that belong.
We provide members a safe place to save and borrow money at very reasonable rates. Share Savings Accounts are federally insured to $100,000 by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. IRA are insured for amounts up to $250,000 and can be structured so coverage extends to $2,000,000.
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
Appalachian Community Federal Credit Union is a community credit union. If you live in, worship in, attend school in, or work in at least one of the following areas you are eligible to become a member:
- Carter County, TN
- Hawkins County, TN
- Sullivan County, TN
- Unicoi County, TN
- Washington County, TN
- Scott County, VA
- Washington County, VA
- Wise County, VA
In addition, after you become a member of the credit union, your spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, grandchild, or other person within your household become eligible for membership. Household is defined as persons living in the same residence maintaining a single economic unit. Also, businesses and other legal entities within the above mentioned areas may qualify for membership .
