APPALACHIAN COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION'S MISSION STATEMENT:
Improve the financial well-being of our members by providing superior quality services at competitive rates and prices; by maintaining a strong financial position; and by keeping our members informed of credit union services and plans.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF APPALACHIAN COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION:
Our credit union was chartered in 1932 as Mead Kingsport Credit Union in order to offer financial services to employees of Mead Paper's Kingsport Mill and had grown to assets of over $1 Million by 1954. Since its founding, the credit union has completed mergers with a number of smaller credit unions. This growth required us to move our operations from the Mead facility. We purchased property at 460 W. Center Street and our new Main Office was opened in 1986. With the pending sale of the Mead mill in 1994, we elected to change our name and we became Appalachian Federal Credit Union. Due to continued growth, it became necessary to apply for a Community Charter. We became Appalachian Community Federal Credit Union in early 2001. Today, ACFCU has 5 branch offices, over 12,500 members and over $110 million in assets.
